PAPER EMPIRE

carton, wood, tracing paper

Gallery 2,04 , Saint Petersburg, Russia

This work consists of drawings which are based on the unrealized architectural plans for the House of Soviets in Leningrad, and architectural model looking objects which are made out of paper and marble stickers. Paper architecture means the architecture, which has not been realized and it happened a lot in Soviet time due to its financial as well as technical issues. Since Saint Petersburg, where this work was exhibited, has the history of Soviet regime as well as Russian empire, my attempt was to re-create an empire with paper, including double meanings of the word “empire”-one is Soviet and another is Russian empire.
